ARE YOU TOXIC?

posted 10/13/2008
Toxins
are everywhere, and yes, you are most likely toxic. In 1979 the United
States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that toxic metals
are the second worst environmental health problem in the country, and
toxicity in general is the number two cause of chronic disease in this
country. As we talked about in an earlier article, the number one cause is stress.
So think about this, if you could detoxify your body, and help it
deal with stress, you could get the number one and two causes of
chronic disease (including cancer and heart disease), that would go
along way to helping your health in general.
So where do we get these toxins? There are some well known things like
asbestos in old buildings and lead in our paint that are of course
being addressed. But here’s a short list of things you may not have
known about:
-
- Remember No Pest Strips? They contained a toxin called
Dichlorvos that increased the possibility of cancer, and are also found
in some flea collars for animals with the same results.
- Lacetate is found in many over the counter hair dyes. Some of the
dyes contain as much as 5924 mcg of lead per gram, almost 10 times the
amount allowed in paint.
- In 1989 several studies found sulfa drugs and antibiotics in 20-38% of low fat and skim milk.
- In March of 2000 the EPA announced plans to phase down and possibly
eliminate the suspected carcinogen MTBE in gasoline. This is a
substance used to reduce emissions from you car but leak with the gas
from the tanks in the ground. Then they find there way to ground water
which you and I then drink.
- MSG has been linked to Type II Diabetes in children. 40 to 50
years ago Type II Diabetes was almost unheard of in children. Read
labels!
- Thallium, a heavy metal linked to sleep disorders, weakness,
nervousness and headaches is found in contaminated fruits, vegetables
and tobacco. This contamination comes coal burning plants, smelting and
cement factories. It is then spewed out in the atmosphere and ends up
on the ground and anything growing on it.
- Burning your trash in your backyard is another major source of
dioxins which have been linked to cancer. Research shows 2-3 people
burning about 3.5 pounds of trash is equivalent to a well run municipal
incinerator serving 120,000 people.
This is the short list. The next article will be about what you can do
to detoxify your body. At that time we also give you a list of books
that go into much more depth about the seriousness of this issue.
